The predecessors of the Department of Applied Informatics were the Department of Systems Engineering and the Department of Informatics in Economics. Despite the changes in name, the main focus of the Department's activity has always been the training of designers for economic applications and project workers for information systems. Together with the Department of Systems Engineering, the Department has contributed to the conception of the Bachelor and Master's degree programmes.
The Department currently participate in the Bachelor's degrees Informatics in Economy, as well as the follow-on Master's degree in Information and Knowledge Management. The Department provides teaching of subjects for students of other degrees within the Faculty of Economics.
The staff of the Department fully integrate the results of their research activities into their teaching. These results are presented at conferences and seminars both in the Czech Republic and abroad. The Department works in close conjunction with prestigious informatics departments in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and other countries in Europe and elsewhere.
