The predecessors of the Department of Applied Informatics were the Department of Systems Engineering, the Department of Automatic Economic Management Systems, and the Department of Informatics in Economics. Despite the changes in name, the main focus of the Department's activity has always been the training of programmers for economic applications and project workers for information systems. Together with the Department of Systems Engineering, the Department has contributed to the conception of the Master's degree programme Systems Engineering and Informatics, and graduates also have the opportunity to continue in the doctoral programmes Systems Engineering and Management Informatics.
The Department currently coordinates the Bachelor's degrees Applied Informatics and Information and Knowledge Management, as well as the follow-on Master's degree in Applied Informatics. It also contributes to the training of graduates in the Master's degree Systems Engineering and Informatics. The Department provides teaching of subjects for students of other degrees within the Faculty of Economics.
The staff of the Department fully integrate the results of their research activities into their teaching. These results are presented at conferences and seminars both in the Czech Republic and abroad. The Department works in close conjunction with prestigious informatics departments in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and other countries in Europe and elsewhere.
