The Department of Business Administration provides teaching for the degree in Company Economics and Business Economics and Management.
Through its teaching work, the Department aims to provide modern tuition to enable graduates to deal both theoretically and practically with issues of business and company management. Emphasis is placed on business-related issues with regard to all forms of business activity, especially in industry, trade and services, and on small and mid-sized business (using internet and intranet tools). The key disciplines taught by the Department concern company economics, marketing, management, accounting, finance, company organization and management, business and enterprise, business management and administration, strategic business management, company diagnostics, innovation, logistics, quality management, business consultancy, and a range of other specialized subjects which create specific graduate profiles.
The Department's research activities are published in the Faculty's annual volumes of studies, and at a range of international conferences etc. The Department is involved in research projects concerning the management and administration of companies and the strategic management of large, medium and small businesses, as well as the practical introduction of new innovative management methods and information technologies and techniques such as e-commerce and e-business. The Department is working on Universities Development Fund projects and has submitted grant funding applications to the Czech Science Foundation and Czech-Polish and Czech-Slovak intergovernmental cooperation programmes.
The Department works closely with a range of important companies, banks, agencies and institutions in the Ostrava region.
The Department's foreign links are connected both with the Erasmus programme and with the need to strengthen cooperation within Central Europe with regard to the specific economic and business conditions in the region (contacts with universities from Slovakia, Poland, the UK, etc.).
